For fast-paced fun in Rotorua, drive to Skyline

Make sure to top your Rotorua adventure holiday off with an exciting day at Skyline Rotorua. What will you do while you are up there? Read on.

When your camera is filled to the brim with pictures of bursting geysers, bubbling mud pools and more ducks on a lake than you know what to do with, you might think your Rotorua holiday is complete. That is not the case, for you haven't completed your Rotorua adventure tour until you've visited Skyline.

What is Skyline?

Skyline Rotorua is a fun-packed activity destination located 487 metres above sea level on Mt. Ngongotaha. Around 10 minutes north of the town centre, for a reasonable price you can jump in a gondola and slowly ascend the mountain's 900 metre-long Doppelmayr cable. After you carefully alight at the top, you're all set for a day's worth of action!

The luge

One of the most popular Skyline activities is to jump in a luge. Picture yourself hurtling down a concrete racetrack at awe-inspiring speeds, sitting in an open-topped go-kart crossed with a toboggan. You can select from three different tracks – scenic, intermediate or advanced – and then your own choice of speed. Will you gently trundle at a moderate pace, soaking in the sights of this volcanic region? Or will you power down fast enough that everything outside your luge is a blur?

Mountain biking

Hire a mountain bike and take on the tracks. With access beginning at the top of the gondola, Skyline Rotorua has the country's first gondola-assisted bike track. Called the Skyline Gravity Park, these fantastic trails cover a ground of 8.5 kilometres through tracks like the easy Simple Jack, intermediate Sprint Warrior or daring Moss Piglet. Half day passes, full day passes and season passes are all available at a reasonable price, and the gondola is capable of moving four bikes a cabin, allowing for up to 3,000 runs per day – so you'll rarely have to wait.
