Welcome to Wanaka: An adventure seeker’s dream

Welcome to Wanaka in the Southern Alps. A plethora of outdoor sports will ensure this is one of the highlights of your South Island adventure holiday.

Set against the backdrop of the Southern Alps, the South Island town of Wanaka is a picturesque beauty that wouldn't look out of place on a postcard. Just an hour's drive from Queenstown, the rolling mountains and pristine lake are the perfect destination for your next adventure holiday. Skiing, hiking, fishing and kayaking are just some of the exciting activities that await you here.

Lake Wanaka

The town of Wanaka sits on the edge of Lake Wanaka, a 42 kilometre long body of crystal clear water stretching over an area of 192 square kilometres. The lake is bordered by the Southern Alps, which means that the only thing to match the excitement of the water-based activities you'll enjoy are the stunning photographs you'll take home with you.

Adventure enthusiasts will find virtually every kind of water activity imaginable – jet skiing, kayaking, swimming, boating, fishing and a whole lot more.

The area is also filled with fantastic hiking routes, so if water isn't your thing you'll still find plenty to keep you busy. Alternatively, hop on two wheels and explore the many bike trails through the hills and mountains.

Hit the slopes

In winter, Wanaka becomes a Mecca for skiers and snowboarders. You'll find three world-class ski areas in the vicinity - Cardrona Alpine Resort, Treble Cone and Snow Farm. The skiing is so good here that National Geographic named Wanaka as one of the world's 25 best ski towns.
